Recently, I wrote an article about the future of digital marketing. While I'm endlessly delighted that Elon Musk might be building dragon cyborgs I genuinely think that the future of digital marketing is going to become hyper-local before we head off to the stars.
Peering out from deep in the trenches of the local search engine ranking battle I can tell you that local search engine optimisation is no stranger to marketers the world over. If you haven't started using it, you definitely should look into how you can better appear on local searches.
What is new and somewhat unchartered is how local and voice search will interplay in the future. My work buddy Erica wrote a great article about the link between local and voice search at Meticulosity recently. And, while it's true that you can do things now to leverage voice search to improve local strategy, I'm interested to see what the future holds for search engine results in general.
It's predicted that around half of all searches on Google will be voice searches through a device like Siri or Alexa and the impact of half of all queries happening without vision is no small thing.
Local search has made people more demanding for immediate, close, and conversational content and that's something we should keep in mind when looking to the future.
